About Us

The International Well Control Forum (IWCF) is a not for profit membership organisation.

Our key aim is to develop and administer well control training, assessment and certification programmes for the exploration and production sector of the oil and gas industry.

We work closely with national regulatory bodies and key industry leaders, such as the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP). Following on from IOGPs recommendations in Report 476, new syllabi have been introduced for our Drilling Well Control and Well Intervention Pressure Control programmes. These programmes are split across five levels to provide employees with the necessary skill set for their role in the oil and gas industry. By providing certified training through accredited centres IWCF want to prevent well control incidents from occurring.

IWCF programmes are delivered by a global network of accredited centres. All assessments are organised by IWCF and take place in closed book examinations. These are invigilated by independent invigilators to ensure correct practice is followed.

WELL CONTROL AND PRESSURE CONTROL CALCULATIONS

IWCF are delighted to launch a new free, online e-learning resource for well control and pressure control students who want to gain understanding, knowledge, practice and confidence in making well control and pressure control calculations.

The objective of this calculations training is to help you make accurate calculations and assess if your answer looks sensible or looks wrong. It is extremely easy to make calculator errors.

The platform offers basic, awareness-level modules on the following topics.

  • Module 1 – Introduction to calculations
  • Module 2 – Volumes, capacities and displacements
  • Module 3 – Tripping and wellbore geometry
  • Module 4 – Gas and gas laws
  • Module 5 – The circulating system.

Online Level 1 and WOCRM

IWCF offer two free online awareness courses, Level 1 and Well Operations Crew Resource Management (WOCRM).

Level 1 is a useful awareness tool for anyone new or experienced in the industry, especially students and graduates, and personnel involved in well control. Click here for more information and to register for WOCRM.

WOCRM aims to improve non-technical skills of all personnel involved in well operations, and focuses on the 6 WOCRM competencies outlined in the IOGP 501 and 502 reports. Click here for more information and to register for WOCRM.

Programme Development

Following on from the recommendations from IOGP Report 476 in October 2012, we have developed a new programme of training with new syllabi for both our Drilling Well Control and Well Intervention Pressure Control programmes. These have been split over five levels in line with IOGP recommendations to ensure that all employees have the necessary skills required for a range of roles in the oil and gas industry.
