The International Well Control Forum (IWCF) has expanded its Glossary to include four additional languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish South American) and introduced downloadable PDF versions for offline access. This update strengthens IWCF’s commitment to supporting a global well control community through clear, consistent, and accessible terminology.
Supporting a Global Audience
Available on the IWCF website, the Glossary of Terms sets out the standard terminology, along with definitions, used across IWCF well control training programmes and assessments, including Drilling Well Control and Well Intervention Pressure Control. With over 500 key well control terms, the introduction of additional languages enhances understanding and consistency for candidates, instructors, and assessors operating in diverse training environments worldwide.

First launched in December 2025, the IWCF Glossary was developed as a central reference point for well control terminology. It already supports multiple languages, including French, German, Italian, and Norwegian, alongside the four newly added languages, reflecting the international reach of IWCF training and assessment programmes.
As part of a Q2 2026 update, each translated glossary entry now also displays the original English term title alongside the translated term title, further supporting accurate translation, cross-language consistency, and easier reference across all language versions.
Continuously Updated and Available Offline
The Glossary is a live, continuously maintained resource. Users are encouraged to submit new terminology and provide feedback on existing definitions, helping to ensure the content remains accurate, relevant, and aligned with current industry terminology.
To further support learning, IWCF has introduced downloadable PDF versions of the Glossary. These allow candidates, instructors, and assessors to access the resource offline, helping those working offshore, in remote environments, or balancing training with personal commitments.

Please note that once downloaded, the PDFs are no longer subject to version control; users should consult the online glossary to ensure they have the most up-to-date definitions.
As the IWCF Glossary continues to evolve, additional terms and languages will be added, maintaining its role as a trusted reference for the global well control community.
