An annular BOP that allows pressure within a well to act on the bottom surface area of the operating piston while in the closed position. The wellbore pressure attempts to lift the piston, which adds upward force to assist the accumulator-supplied closing pressure to maintain the seal created by the elastomeric sealing element.
