The International Well Control Forum (IWCF) is a not for profit membership organisation established in 1992.
The key aim of IWCF is to develop and administer well control training, assessment and certification programmes on behalf of the exploration and production sector of the oil and gas industry.
IWCF work closely with national regulatory bodies as well as other key industry leaders, such as the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP). Following on from IOGPs recommendations in Report 476, new syllabi have been introduced for the two programmes, Drilling Well Control and Well Intervention Pressure Control, and are split across five levels to equip all employees with the necessary skill set for their role in the oil and gas industry. By providing certified training through accredited centres IWCF want to prevent any incidents like the Macondo well control incident from occurring again.
IWCF programmes are delivered by a global network of accredited centres. All examination sessions are organised by IWCF and take place in closed book examinations. These are invigilated by independent IWCF invigilators to ensure correct practice is carried out.
